Our history
The Czech Red Cross (ČČK) with its headquarters in Prague, IČO 00426547, is a humanitarian society operating throughout the territory of the Czech Republic; exists by law. It is a state-recognizednational society of the Red Crosswithin the meaning of international law; from the point of view of domestic law, it isan association.
The ČČK is a partof the International Red Crossand is guided bythe Basic Principles of the ČČK&ČP.
The Czech Red Cross was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross on August 25, 1993. He was subsequently accepted as a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on 25 October 1993.
It works mainly in thehumanitarian, social, health and health-educational fields.Fulfilling the mission and tasks of the CČK is a generally beneficial activity.
As of 31.12.2023, the CČK had a total of13,711members and volunteers*) associated in 417 Local CČK groups in 61 Regional CČK Associations; the number of ČČK employees was640. In 2023, we provided help and services to a total of453,261people.
Pursuant to the above-mentioned law, the ČČKperforms the following tasks in particular:
• operates in the field of civil defense and protection of the population and provides assistance in cases of disasters and other extraordinary events;
• provides medical, rescue, social and other humanitarian services;
• acts as an exclusively recognized auxiliary organization of the military medical service;
• spreads knowledge of the Geneva Conventions;
• works in the field of health and education and cooperates with health care providers.
The Czech Red Cross follows on from its predecessors - thePatriotic Auxiliary Society of the Red Cross for the Kingdom of Bohemia, which was founded on September 5,1868asthe 13thnational society of the Red Cross in the world, andthe Czechoslovak Red Cross, which was founded on February 6, 1919.
The Czech Red Cross was created by the division of the ČSČK as its successor organization in the Czech Republic. It is entered in the federal register kept by the Municipal Court in Prague, section L, insert 5090. It was recognized by the International Committee of the Red Cross on 25/08/1993 (Circulaire du CICR No. 570).
